Christmas Projects

Eternal Anchor – School

In one of our classes we have been learning about shape. The students in this group all need quite a bit of help but really are enjoying the different shapes. We built a snowman snow-globe together where the shapes were pre-cut for them. They had help gluing the pieces together and they added the snow.

These same students also did a Christmas Wreath with Tempura paint and sponges.

I also have a 12 year old student with Asperger’s. For a Christmas art project we looked at examples of Mexican tin ornaments and he created his own interpretation. He used a recycled aluminum baking pan and permanent markers to create this embossed snowman ornament.

First Project

In January I had my first class with 11 students at Eternal Anchor‘s community center program. Because their disabilities are so varied I needed a project that I could use as a tool to evaluate their abilities and limitations. I found a wonderful first day Kindergarten project at theartofed.com. It helped me see what the kids are able to do by themselves and what they need help with. It also showed me how much the assistants need to help and sometimes how much they over-help. (We are all working on letting the kids do as much as they can). I was very excited to see how creative they were.

Here are the final results.
